The Sharp LED TV is the picture too good?

It may sound a bit absurd to complain about how clear the picture is on the 70 inch Sharp LED TV, and maybe I am just getting a bit out of touch with the times yet I find on some movies and channels the picture can be too clear.

I love going to the movies and watching them on the in crystal vision or DLP (Digital Laser Projection) and in my house I run a Mitushibi 73 inch DLP. The thing I hated about LED TV’s of any kind when they came out was the same thing I hated about LCD. Pixels and even worse DEAD PIXELS. I have 20-10 vision I noticed those pixel breaks on an LED TV but the new 70 inch Sharp LED TV doesn’t have that problem. Then you combine the Backlit LED which gives the picture some depth and the flat out clarity of the picture that allows me to see the actors makeup and well it kinda takes away from the fiction of the story.

I am certain as more homes get these 70 inch or 80 inch LED/LCD Tv’s that camera’s are going to improve and something will be done to address the lack of mystery problem. It is not Sharp’s problem that what is being transmitted to the tv is so clear.

The real fact is Directv is so clear now on some of their normal HD and 3D(Directv has 5 full time 3D channels now) that getting a clear picture has never been better.

I just wanted to address something that is not really an issue but for me its an annoyance. Most of my customers get an oooo and aaaah out of just how clear the directv and sharp led tv combo is. Even just watching the news is outstanding.

Mounting the LED TV in the corner

We already are getting visitors after just a short time since launch, particularly with questions on how to mount a flat screen in the corner and setup the mount.

It has been my experience that the 55″ LED TV is about as big as you want to go with an off the shelf articulating mount.  BE WARNED the Chinese cut corners and the metal used in most of these mounts is garbage.  The TV will Sag and the metal holding the mount to the wall starts to rip with time.  Not only does your Mount need to hold your LED TV firmly to the wall it needs to support the weight and force you put on it when you swing the TV because you changed the furniture in the room or you need to get behind it for some reason.  This is just not a place to cut corners when you are placing your LED TV in the Corner.

Corner Mounting a Sharp LED TV

Full Range of motion of the Wall mount allows you to change the furniture around later without needing to remount the LED TV

I highly recommend the Sanus Systems VLF220 VisionMount Large Full Motion Wall Mount, this mount has more than enough articulation to safely mount a LED TV in the corner of a room safely.  The arms are cast not stamped steel so they will never sag and the mounting of it fairly straight forward and it should only take a few hours if you check your math twice and hunt for studs in the wall properly.  Now I sell these mounts from the store for $359 retail and they are worth every penny, but through our link someone is probably trying to wholesale one or two of them because they didn’t know how to sell or install a quality mount.

First when you picking a corner you will have some things to consider.  How high can I go and have the TV clear properly, how far from the wall to make it fit in the corner and seem balanced.

To start try to pick an exterior wall, The studs in that wall will be better quality and more likely to be 16 inch on center where some interior walls have been 24 inch on center in recent years to save money.   Also if your mounting a Sharp LED TV in a master bedroom that means there is a room that leads to the bathroom, that wall can have plumbing inside it if your shower is butted against the same wall on the other side so avoid that spot and use the exterior wall planning again.

Now a standard 55 inch LED TV is not 55 inches wide, if you bought a new full motion picture quality TV your usually between 50-52″ wide and only about 34-36″ tall.  What you want to do is add 8″ to the Height of your TV so lets say 42″ by 52″ is our math.   With the mount we suggested above all you really have to do is find the first stud that is more than 10 inches from the corner and it will usually be 14 to 18″ when measuring a painted and finished wall.   Here is a solid tip if you don’t have a stud finder USE A MAGNET to find where the screws holding the sheet rock are.  The magnet will center itself over screw and you best hope that the sheet rock guy didn’t cut any corners that you are dead over the stud.

Now from the ceiling we want to divide our TV height plus 8 inches by 2 so in our example (36 + 8)/2 = 22 inches  This is where we want the CENTER of the mount to be at so that we have 4 inches of clearance for swing above TV.  Also when you go to hang your TV you have to come in high and latch it in a downward fashion and you need room for this to take place.  Also another pro tip is to LOCK THE ARMS BEFORE YOU HANG THE TV or you wind up chasing the mount to the wall as you hang it, you fall new TV breaks much laughter ensues, etc etc.

There are some adjustments on the back of the arm to lock out the wiggle and the ability for the TV to come OFF the mount.  Use them.

80″ Sharp LED TV vs 70″ Sharp LED TV

This article about Choosing a flat screen TV is to help you get the most of your money.  To 3D or not to 3D how much screen will make me happy and how much will make my pocketbook cry.

First lets look at a YouTube video put out by sharp then we will pick it apart a bit.

OK lovely video of a space that was designed for a flat screen only it was designed wrong.  If your building houses and you put a fireplace in thinking a flat screen is going above it, then your thinking of selling the house and not living in it.   The heat and smoke is bad on any flat screen TV.  If you don’t have the space anywhere else in your room, think corner.

You want a Good solid Articulating mount(Expect to pay at least $350 for a good mount, cheaper price means cheaper metal which fatigues as your house “breathes” during the season).  I have found that you can go to a TV that is a 55inch screen size with a 26″ Articulating arm and it fits nicely in the upper corner of a bedroom or small living and looks very professional and clean once mounted.   Tons of space to hide your TV box and wires with wall mounts behind TV.    I had one customer who put a Long potted plant screen from the ceiling down behind the TV so the plant hung below the TV and it gave the area more depth.  You will have to get more creative on decorating when you mount your LED-LCD TV up high, but that tends to be as much fun as the tv itself and it allows the person who likes to move furniture a couple times a year to actually have more flexibility.

One of the reasons for buying the Sharp LED TV is reliability.  Steer clear of the LG LED TV while the picture quality looks as good in the store dead pixels are a reality shortly after purchase.  While all tv’s are made or assembled in China Good companies are very serious about having people on site doing quality control and Sharp is one of those companies.  As someone who sells, installs and has to warranty them its my goal NOT TO WARRANTY a TV so I want my customers to choose reliable products.

To that point DO NOT BUY THE EXTEND WARRANTY when you buy a Sharp LED TV these things are reliable you will be just throwing money away.  Amazon is one of the cheapest places to buy a 80 ” Sharp LED TV and there is very little to no profit.  Often stores are selling them at wholesale to keep from getting hung on a their floor financing plans.  Plan on spending at least $200 to get someone to hang your flat screen tv on the wall for you.  Its a couple hours work if done right but you will save more than that buy buying online anyway.

Now the 80″ LED TV  VS 70″ LED TV  Above we linked to an 80″ on Amazon.  Don’t get the 80″ Sharp.  The price difference between the 70″ and 80″ is drastic.  Here is the 70″ Sharp LED TV and it is almost half the price of the 80″

If your heart is set on a slightly larger TV then bang for the buck in LED TV’s in the 5000-6000 dollar range right now is the Mitsubishi L75-A91 75-Inch 1080p LaserVue HDTV  These Flat screen TV’s are neither LED NOR LCD but a new technology that eliminates the pixels all together.  Only certain dealers can sell them and the Mitsubishi’s legal department is very fast about getting dealers to pull them off Amazon when the price is below $5400 so if the link I gave you has one for sale grab it best TV on the market and the Sound is also amazing in it.

Sharp LED TV

Most likely you have seen the commericials about how the Aquos Sharp LED TV has a feature that no other flat screen LCD or LED TV has and that is the color yellow in its mix of super secret ways to make a picture.   Its bunk, a marketing scam and here is why and you learned it in Kindegarden.

The Sharp LED TV still uses the 3 industry standard colors used to make a 1080P picture which are Red ,Blue and Green.   TV Industry standard and kindegarden science differ in that Green is a combination of Yellow and Blue in real life.  You can’t have Green without yellow.   No devices on the market like blu-ray players have a Yellow output to send to your Sharp LED TV.

The picture is brighter and has more depth to it because the Sharp Flat Screen uses a Better Type of LED that allows for more picture depth and clarity.  It has nothing to do with the color yellow other than their LED’s are more responsive to that primary color.  Since its techy talk to try and tell you why their LED TV is better than others its simpler marketing to go grade school on the buyers.  Don’t get me wrong better is better we just want our customer to actually know why we are recommending a Sharp LED TV.
